Health and hygiene are major concerns in the communities served by Stree Mukti Sanghatana, especially the underprivileged Women working in menial task of cleaning waste. SMS addresses the issue of Health through a number of its programmes:
- Parisar Vikas is a complete programme addressing the problems of waste management and of self-employed women engaged in the ‘menial’ tasks of collecting waste. Through this programme, Stree Mukti Sanghatana provides these women access to health facilities and improve their often highly unhygienic working conditions.
- Adolescent Sensitization is a programme that raises awareness of health and hygiene among young students, addressing the topics of drug de-addiction and sex education among others.
- Day Care Centers allow working women to leave their children in a safe and uplifting environment, where they receive basic skills training
- Family Counseling help distressed women with issues of violence, harassment and vocational assistance, helping with their psychological health
