Our Members

She is the founder trustee of Stree Mukti Sanghatana and has served as the Secretary of the organisation from 1975 to 2018. She is committed to women’s cause and has helped many organisations develop perspectives on women’s issues and policies. An ardent believer in justice and equality, she began her career as a labour lawyer and later devoted her time and energies to lead Stree Mukti Sanghatana. She is the chief editor of Stree Mukti Sanghatana’s monthly magazine ‘Prerak Lalkari’ (SMS bugle call) since its inception in 1986. She was a member of the First Women’s Commission appointed by the Government of Maharashtra from 1991 to 1994. She is a renowned columnist and has contributed several articles on women’s issues to newspapers and magazines. She is recipient of several awards including the Sahitya Academy award for her translated works.

Jyoti Mhapsekar is one of the founder trustees of Stree Mukti Sanghatana and President of Stree Mukti Sanghatana since 1990. She voluntarily  retired as a librarian of one of the leading Architecture colleges in Mumbai. She is an acclaimed international playwright and has written plays such as ‘Mulgi zali ho’, ‘Hunda nako ga bai’ and many other plays and songs promoting gender equity and women empowerment in all stratas of the society. She was one of the conveners of Jidnyasa and also edited training manuals published by SMS

She actively contributes/supervises Stree Mukti Sanghatana’s Parisar Vikas (Neighbourhood development) program and is the recipient of numerous awards including President’s award ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar’ for her contribution to the women’s movement. 

Amol Kerkar has held the Vice President’s position of Stree Mukti Sanghatana since 1999 and became the  Secretary in 2018. She has been on the editorial board of Prerak Lalkar since it’s inception from 1986. She actively contributes/supervises the Family Counseling Centers activity and is a vital contributor to the theoretical discussions in formulating various policies of Stree Mukti Sanghatana. She is a renowned author and has authored 3 books. She has also raised funds for education of daughters of women waste pickers. She has retired as a banker from Reserve Bank of India. 

Pradnya Saraf has actively participated in the cultural troupe of SMS since 1985. She iss retired as Deputy Chief Engineer’s post from Mumbai Municipal Corporation in 2025. Pradnya has a major role in Jidnyasa project and SMS kalapathak.

She became associated with Stree Mukti Sanghatana in 1985 during the Organization’s tour of north India campaign for Gender sensitization and equity. After retiring from the department of mathematics of a degree college in Ulhasnagar she has joined back as one of the trustees and  has taken up responsibility of supporting digital aspects of administration. She is also involved in conducting sessions, writing articles to popularise mathematics among school children. 

Neelima Deshpande is a founding member  and served as the Joint Secretary of Stree Mukti Sanghatana for fifteen years. She actively contributes/supervises Stree Mukti Sanghatana’s Adolescent Sensitization program (Jidnyasa) and Day Care Centers (Amche Ghar) activity. She is a retired Technician from Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM). She is has co-authored 2 books. 

Inspired by the play ’Mulgi Zali Ho’, Yogini Raul joined Stree Mukti Sanghatana in 1985. She was a part of the cultural troupe and has given numerous performances. She has retired as a banker from I.D.B.I. bank. She is on the editorial board of Stree Mukti Sanghatana’s monthly magazine ‘Prerak Lalkar’ and looks after the financial administration of Stree Mukti Sanghatana since 2018. She is a renowned columnist and poet and has contributed various articles to leading newspapers and magazines. Her collections of poems have been highly acclaimed and has received many awards.

Mrinal Sathe has been associated with Stree Mukti Sanghatana since 1979. She has been an active member of the cultural troupe and has actively contributed in many  awareness campaigns on gender sensitivity and equality. She is the author of a book published by Stree Mukti Sanghatana. She is a retired Professor of Zoology department of a renowned Mumbai College. 

Jayashree Pandit was the first trained counsellor from TISS who joined the Family Counseling Center activity in 1986 as a volunteers . She has also been associated with KEM hospital and Thane Mental Hospital as a social worker. She has mentored and guided many activists and is a role model for young counsellors. 

Vrushali Magdum joined Stree Mukti Sanghatana in 1985. She actively contributes to/supervises the Parisar Vikas activity in Navi Mumbai. She is on the editorial board of ‘Prerak Lalkari’. She is also a renowned columnist and has contributed numerous articles to newspapers and magazines. She has authored several books and has received many awards for  her literary works. She is a member  of many government, corporate, and educational committees. 

Maya Kabre joined Stree Mukti Sanghatana in 1982 and has participated in many campaigns on gender sensitization and equality. She  is a retired librarian from a renowned Navi Mumbai College. 

Sangeeta Saraf joined Stree Mukti Sanghatana in 1990. She was the youngest member of the cultural troupe and has given numerous performances all over Maharashtra. She was part of the team who worked towards uniting ragpicker women and empowering them. She actively contributes to/supervises the ‘Jidnyasa’ project for adolescents. She conceived the concept of ‘Lokshahi Utsav’ which has since become an integral part of Stree Mukti Sanghatana’s activities for the past 10 years. She retired as an educator from a renowned Navi Mumbai school.
